Why Attitude is Important

ree

Every aspect of our lives is influenced by our knowledge and emotions. Just as thoughts and emotions can propel us toward future success or disaster, the feelings and labels we carry about ourselves, people, work, homes, finances, and the world collectively shape our attitude. With the right attitude, humans are capable of overcoming monumental challenges and achieve greatness; with the wrong attitude, even minor setbacks can lead to a life of misery. To live a happy life and create a bright future, we must carefully examine our relationships and feelings about the past, present, and future.

A Lesson from the Past

A few days ago, I watched an interview with a famous music artist from the 80s. The artist’s response to why he faded from the public eye left a lasting impression on me. He said, I am still good at what I do, but I lacked the right attitude towards the internet when it shows up. The internet came like a train, and those of us who weren’t ready were left behind. His words highlight a fundamental truth: the right attitude is essential for success. We must constantly assess our feelings about our roles and possibilities in the world to achieve our dreams.

The Past: A School for the Present and Future

The past is a tool in our hands, just like the present and future. Its impact on our lives depends on how we use it. One of the best approaches to our feelings about the past is to view it as a school that teaches us how to handle the present and future better, rather than a weapon of self-destruction. We should not beat ourselves up over past mistakes, faults, failures, and losses. The events of the past, both good and bad, are part of the life experience.

Revisiting the past can overwhelm us, but it can also teach us wisdom and help us live smarter, better lives. Accepting that we cannot change the past allows us to focus on creating a better future. By adopting an intelligent approach to the past, we can dramatically change the course of the coming years for the better.

The Present: The Gateway to Change

The present moment is where our better future begins. Every new day brings us 1,440 minutes—86,400 seconds. This time is equally available to everyone, regardless of wealth or status. Time favors no one, and the air we breathe does not discriminate. Today simply asks, “What are you going to do with me?”

How we use each day largely depends on our attitude. With the right attitude, we can seize the day and make it a new beginning. The greatest opportunity today offers is the chance to begin the process of change—adopting a new attitude about who we are, what we want, and what we will do. Today can be different from yesterday; it is all a matter of our attitude.

The Future: A Vision Realized

The future is like a train, and those unprepared for its arrival are swiftly left behind. Today was the future of yesterday, and it moves forward with every blink and tick of the clock. Our attitude about the future depends on our ability to envision it. Each of us has the inherent ability to dream, design, and experience the future through our hopeful imagination. Whatever the mind can imagine, it can create.

Our minds instinctively know how to perform the miracles of health, wealth, and happiness. Every day, we arrive at the kind of future we have envisioned through our attitudes. Shifting from a negative past to a positive present attitude can bring rewards that create a beautiful future.

Your Attitude About Yourself

The good news is that each of us possesses the mental, spiritual, intellectual, and creative power to achieve our dreams. However, not all of us are aware of this. Within us lies a master key that can unlock every door to our heart’s desires. Often, we suffer despite abundance, feel lonely in crowds, and remain broke amidst wealth.

A poor attitude about ourselves hinders us from recognising our inherent gifts and talents. We are quick to see the value in others but reluctant to see it in ourselves. We applaud others’ accomplishments but shy away from recognising our own. How we see ourselves is a matter of choice.

Understanding our uniqueness is crucial. We do not feel better about ourselves simply because we do not truly know ourselves—our strengths, abilities, resources, sense of humor, and unique accomplishments. Recognising our uniqueness would eliminate doubt about our ability to create a better future.

Your Attitude About the World

How we see the world determines how we relate to it. Seeing ourselves as insignificant leads to a life of insignificance. Conversely, seeing ourselves as relevant compels us to strive against all odds to live up to our identity. Imagine the world as a pot of soup and yourself as an essential ingredient. Your absence makes the soup less flavourful.

You are the light of the world, and when you do not shine, the world around you is in darkness. You are the salt of the earth; without you, the earth is tasteless. How important you see yourself matters. It creates your attitude and instills a sense of responsibility. To receive the future’s rewards, we must maintain total dominion over our attitude.

Conclusion

Your attitude is an invaluable asset, a treasure of great value. Protect it. Nurture it. And you will reap the beauty of being alive. With the right attitude, we can transform our past, make the most of the present, and create a future filled with promise and fulfilment.
